Laurel House is a delightful 18th-century farmhouse in the quiet Cumbrian village of Culgaith, near Penrith. Center Parcs is just 3 miles away.

It is a Visit Britain 5-Star Gold-rated B&B with well-appointed rooms. Each spacious room includes a king-size or super king-size bed and has a private bathroom with quality toiletries.

Laurel House is 10 minutes from junction 40 of the M6 and ideally situated for exploring the Lake District, or as a stopover on the way to Scotland.
Limited free parking is available.

The excellent breakfasts at Laurel House were recently awarded a Visit Britain Breakfast Award. They feature locally sourced produce and homemade bread and preserves.

  Laurel House was just perfect,we needed a break from our busy city lives & it was so relaxing,welcoming and cosy.The amazing breakfast set us up for the day,with lovely home made breads,jams and the best fresh fruit salad I have ever tasted and the cooked breakfast was just served piping hot and made me gain 5 llbs around my waist !!!!!!.Alex & jeff were excellent hosts we felt so much at home. The house and our bedroom was spotless and so cosy with all the little extras ( book and see ). we will be returning ASAP.We have already told many of our friends,If you need to chill out and recharge your batteries then give Alex & Jeff a visit .   Exceptionally comfortable and welcoming. Alex and Jeff went out of their way to make us feel more like visiting family than paying guests, Alex coming to the gate to greet us before serving us tea and delicious scones (made, like the breakfast bread, by Jeff). There are two gorgeous little dogs who also treated us like family (to the point of bringing us their tennis balls to throw) and the hospitality included plenty of useful local tips and information as well as a complimentary evening tipple as we chatted to our highly personable hosts. Our room was very nice, including a king-sized bed and to call the breakfast generous would be to undersell it.

  We stayed here for 1 night on our way back from Scotland to Bristol. The owners were excellent hosts offering afternoon tea & homemade scones as soon as we arrived. They offered a 1st class breakfast & the room was nicely furnished with a huge bed and all the extras, hairdryer, tea making facilities, trouser press, bathrobes etc. They recommended a super restaurant within walking distance and we would definately stay there again if ever in that area.

  The staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast. Rooms were very comfortable and well designed, beautiful house and setting. No complaints.

  Alex and Geoff who ran Laurel House were very welcoming, coffee and home made scones on arrival!! Nothing was too much trouble. They have a good knowledge of the surrounding area and recommended places to eat and walks etc The room was very clean, tea and coffee provided, and some nice little extras. The bed was very comfortable although 8.30 for breakfast on a Sunday I thought was a little early, however the breakfast was excellent everything you could want and more! We will certainly be going back.

  Very comfortable bed, endless supply of tea and coffee. We can understand why the breakfasts have won an award, there was a choice of food and homemade bread, all nicely cooked. Jeff and Alex did their utmost to ensue we were looked after. We would also like to add to their recommendation on the local restaurant and pub as excellent places to eat out. We would definatly stay there again if visting the lakes.

  This Luxury b/b is for people who like a higher end class of comfort. If you like to be looked after at the upper end for a special occasion this where to go.It is also complimented by a first class public house in the village for your evening meal.Great Location! We wish we could have spent more time in this area.

  The room was very comfortable with an excellent bathroom ensuite. The welcome from the owners was enthusiastic, and their 2 well trained dogs were also welcoming, but not overpowering. The village seemed very friendly, and the food in the local inn was 1st class.

  The welcome was just amazing, Jeff and Alex were a lovely couple who just wanted to make everything perfect for us. The rooms were so comfortable, and so clean. The Cumberland Breakfast was out of this world, and the gardens of Laurel House were immaculate. We enjoyed playing with Holly and Bramble, the Jack Russells, and the location was fab. We did not want to leave and we will definately return, not only for a quiet break, but to see Jeff, Alex and their girls.

  Excellent Service and attention to detail. The owners could not do enough to make me more welcome whilst on my business trip. The breakfast was first class and kept me going all day. I am now looking forward to taking my partner for a relaxing weekend. Highly recommend you book a stay and explore the beautiful countryside.

  Our first impressions of Laurel House were very positive. It's a fine building of great character that's been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard. The well managed gardens are lovely, with a pair of magnificent beech trees to the front, all set in a pretty, peaceful village. The roomy interior is beautifully and tastefully furnished. Our bedroom was extremely luxurious with a super large bed and a de luxe en suite, with welcoming nibbles and good quality toiletries provided. The food was in a class of its own: great breakfast choice, offering quality and quantity, with homemade breads and preserves making it a real treat. Jeff and Alex who run it were great hosts: friendly, attentive and extremely knowledgeable about all the area has to offer. Highly and unreservedly recommended!

  Alex and Jeff were excellent hosts at Laurel House. They were very obliging and offered an excellent service. They were very knowledgable about the area. The rooms were high quality and the breakfast was very tasty and of a very high standard. There was off road parking. This was a quiet and peaceful location with good local facilities. A highly enjoyable stay.

  i cannot list everything i liked about Laurel House, from start to finish our stay was perfect. i would reccommend this guesthouse to anyone without hesitation, and will definately be staying there again. an idyllic setting, perfect if your looking for peace and relaxation. the local pub(reccommended by our hosts) provided a delicious meal, and good real ale, and then back to the comfiest bed ever! the next morning our day was off to a fantastic start with a delicious breakfast, home made bread, jams, eggs from the farm at the back, all really really good. there are a few unexpected treats too but i'll leave that to you to find out when you stay, and you must, a real hidden treasure. thank you xx

  We needed a good night's sleep and when we arrived we were elated to find a huge king sized bed to tuck into. The decor of the room was very nice and our room and bathroom were immaculate and comfortable. Every detail was taken care of. We loved the dogs and Alex and Jeff couldn't have been nicer. Our made-to-order breakfast was the perfect way to top our good night's rest. The nearby pub served a great dinner. Wonderful stay in the countryside.

  A warm and friendly welcome from Jeff and Alex to their beautiful home. Everything is arranged for the convenience of the guests including booking us in for dinner at a wonderful restaurant nearby. As we had to leave before the usual breakfast time our hosts offered an early breakfast which was not to be missed! A very pleasant stay, I would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

  We arrived to a warm welcome of tea/coffee and home-made warm scones with home-made confiture. The room was great, all new, modern, well-equipped. Massive, very comfy bed. Breakfast was out of this world, every possible option on the menu including daily fresh fruit, kippers, cereals, juices, fresh coffee, home-made bread and all cooked to perfection. Alex and Jeff simply couldn't do enough for us, from booking restaurant tables to planning day-trip routes. They're a very nice, genuine couple. We fully recommend Laurel House and can't wait to return in a couple of weeks with friends.

  Spotlessly clean, top quality fittings, extremely comfortable bed and bedding, attentive owners but gave me all the peace I was looking for , excellent and generous food. I really can't fault the weekend
